Two extreme sports enthusiasts from Newport have abseiled down the world’s largest Transporter Bridge. Anthony Palmer and Chris Sartin, residents at Gwalia Care and Support’s In2Change project, climbed the 278 steps up the 105 year old bridge and then abseiled 178 feet down to raise money for the St. David’s Foundation charity.
Our new drop-in centre for domestic abuse has now opened in Pontypridd. The Oasis Centre, Ty Ashgrove is based in Upper Church Street and offers first line advice and support to people experiencing domestic abuse.
Ashley Williams has been spotted sporting his Street Football Wales wristbands for the first game of the season which took place on March 28th.
The game attracted attention from the popular Sport Wales television programme on BBC2 Wales who dropped by to film some of the action and chat to Project Leader Keri Harris and Street Football Wales Patron Ashley Williams of Swansea City FC. The programme was shown on on 30th March and featured a section on the Street Football Wales project.
Film Premiere - Ghosts and Spirit: Llanelli Past, Present and Future
We are pleased to announce that the premiere of Llety Foyer's local film project will take place at the Selwyn Samuel Centre in Llanelli on Friday 30th March 2012 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 each and include a buffet. There will also be a bar available at the venue on the night. The film will also be shown at the Llanelli Film Festival in August 2012.
Eighteen year old Kiefer Cheasty has been nominated to carry the Olympic Flame through Briton Ferry in recognition of proactively learning new skills to improve his future employability. Keifer took a Jamie Oliver Cooking Skills course at our Clarewood Neath Foyer last year.
On Thursday 15th March Clients from our new young people’s project Duffryn house, Mountain Ash YMCA set the challenge of reaching the summit of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons. This is the highest mountain south of Snowdon in the UK standing at 886m above sea level.
Young people in our Llety Foyer in Llanelli have been giving their minds and bodies a health boost thanks to £450 funding from Communities First. The money has helped them to set up a health club focusing on physical and emotional health and healthy eating.

A project to create a piece of original artwork has boosted the confidence, self-esteem and social skills of a group of local people. The five budding artists from Torfaen, Pontypool were brought together by Gwalia Care & Support to take part in a 10-week art project led by Welsh artist, Paul Byrne from Know Art Sense.
